Gretchen M. Ashton, CFT, NBFE, is a unique fitness coach, athlete and motivational professional from Carlsbad, California, who is touching and changing the lives of all who have the opportunity to meet her. Known as "The Fitness Coach", she shares her enthusiasm for a healthy lifestyle through biomechanic strength training and fitness therapy. Gretchen is registered with the National Board of Fitness Examiners, is accredited by International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) and is a member in good standing of IDEA Health and Fitness Association.

Seeking more than the traditional fitness mind-set, Gretchen opened the exclusive Fitness Coach exercise facility in March 2000 to provide a focused, friendly, positively charged environment. Since 2005 she conducts private in-home sessions and small group workshops. Her personal training philosophy is goal-oriented and incorporates proven methods producing guaranteed results.
As one of southern California’s premier fitness professionals, Gretchen developed comprehensive peak-performance strength programs for local eco-adventure teams, fire fighters and athletes.
As a public speaker and columnist, Gretchen has been featured on radio, local television news and in newspaper columns across the country. With more than 20 published articles Gretchen writes the "Dear Fitness Coach" question and answer column, developed the Take-Five Corporate Wellness Program, and is the Owner of ScubaFit, providing exercise instruction for outdoor recreational activities.
Gretchen’s invaluable experience is exemplified in her athletic accomplishments as a competitive power lifter and lifetime drug free athlete. During her athletic career, she became the second woman in AAU Power Lifting history to receive Hall of Fame recognition. She set numerous championship titles including 21 American and 21 World Lifting Records.
Gretchen participates in the outdoor activities of kayaking, scuba diving and sailing. This grandmother is greatly inspired by her family.
Gretchen and her husband reside in Carlsbad, California and attend North Coast Calvary Chapel. Her son an OIF USMC Wounded Warrior, her daughter-in-law, a U.S. Navy Reservist, and two grand daughters currently live in upstate New York.
